Travel to Kodaikanal

Tamil Nadu is truly a blessed state, for it not only boasts of matchless architectural marvels but also remarkable Natural beauty. The state is fortunate enough to have three of the most beautiful holiday retreats in India- Ooty, Kodaikanal and Coimbatore.

Anyone who is on a tour to Ooty can easily take a tour of Kodaikanal, which is fondly referred to as the "princess of hill stations in South India". The picturesque hill station is nestled among the Palani hills and is surrounded by dense forests.

Kodaikanal 'the gift of the forest' has many tourist attractions that visitors can tour, while they enjoy a holiday at the hill station.

The Kodai club is possibly the first place that tourists head to when they begin their tour of Kodaikanal. The club is a perfect example of the exclusive clubs that were to be found in all the hill station during the colonial era. The lounge of the club has a fireplace, a piano and a library. And there is of course a bar too, with stuffed heads of bison and tigers. The restaurant has antique plates and china and other furnishings that belong to the past age. Though one cannot get bored too easily of this interesting place, there are many places of tourist interest that are as interesting as this club, if not more so. For instance, the lake, which is located in the heart of the hill station. It covers an area of 60 acres and is a favorite of tourists because they can enjoy boating and angling in this lake.

One place that is definitely worth a tour in Kodaikanal is the Bryant's Park, which is named after the forest officer who had planned the layout of the park. The garden has many kinds of trees, plants and ferns. There is even a Eucalyptus tree in the park, which dates back to 1846 and stands 250 feet tall and 10 feet wide. The Park also boasts of many exotic varieties of orchids that attract a lot of visitors.

Close to the lake is Coaker's walk, which got its name from St. Coaker of the Royal Engineers. One can enjoy a beautiful view of the plains and the distant hills from here.

A place of worship and tourist attraction is the Lutheran Church. It has a stone building and windows of stained glass. The paintings and the batiks depict the scenes from Christ's life. Close to this church is the famous church, Christ the king Church, which has a building inspired by gothic style of architecture and has beautiful stained glass windows.
Tourists to Kodaikanal may also take a tour to other places, like Green Valley View and Shenbaganur Museum.

Come and spend a holiday at this heavenly hill station in South India, that will transport you to a world of serenity and beauty that will make you forget the squalor and the cacophony of a bustling city.
