If you are spending your holiday in Ooty, then may we suggest a tour to Coimbatore, which lies in the same state of Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore, lies on the foot of the Nilgiri Hills, which explains the pleasant weather it experiences throughout the year. Though the city is famous mainly for its textile industry, it also is a great place to tour while one is holidaying in Tamil Nadu.
Some of the important tourist places in Coimbatore are, the VOC park & Zoo, Perur Temple and Marudhamalai Temple. The VOC Park, is named after the famous freedom fighter V.O. Chidambaram. It is a perfect place to visit particularly for those who have children with them. In the park, there is a mini zoo, a toy train and an aquarium among other things. Another place you can tour, is a small town, Perur, which is merely 6kms from Coimbatore. This town has a temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
The outer buildings of this temple complex were built in the 17th century but the inner shrine is quite old. On the entrance of the temple is a pillar that has a carved figure of a soldier loading a musket. His uniform is similar to that worn by Aurangzeb's soldiers, so you can pretty much imagine why the visitors find this nothing less than 'strange'.
About 12 kms from Coimbatore, is the Marudhamalai temple, dedicated to Lord Subramanya. This is possibly the most visited temple in the region and it attracts a large number of devotees every year.
Other places of Interest in Coimbatore are, the Vinayaga temple, Thavumanaswamy temple, Thirumoorthy temple and Elakurichi church.
Come to Coimbatore for your next holiday and see for yourself why this city is so popular with tourists to South India and check out the interesting place around this colorful city, also called the 'Manchester of South India'.
