
Nilgiris, which mean "Blue mountains", is the meeting point of the two ghat ranges of the Sahayadri hills. The height of the hills of the Blue mountains vary from 2,280 to 2,290 meters, though the highest peak is the Doddabetta which stands 2,623 meter high. To the west to the Nilgiris, is the state of Kerala, on the north is Mysore and Coimbatore lies on the east and the south.
